Haircuts

Today’s task was to go and get my hair cut. One of the most stressful things I have to do on a regular basis.

Getting the crowded, noisy smelly subway into town. Sitting in an incredibly noisy and busy barbershop with people touching me and talking at me and clipping and buzzing around my head.

I hate it. There must be a better way (other than shaving my head!).

  • I haven't had my hair cut in like 8 years.

If it was just something you had done and that was it, I'd forced myself to get through it, but you have to keep enduring it every so often for forever. So I just put up with my hair down to my belly button.

  • Good for you that's the sensible thing to do hehe :D

I'm growing my hair my really long to now it's too stressful having it cut I've found

  • Thanks Debbie, this is a really good idea!

  • There are mobile hairdressers who cut hair at your own home.

    I had one for years.

  • In general I’d agree with you but I have to go to a work event next week at which I have to look smart Worried

  • Yes, I think it is. Somewhere quiet and out of the way.

  • Why does it matter? who told you having a hair cut matters? i've only been to the hairdressers twice in my life, i either let it grow long or keep it short, the only people it matters to are the people you don't want around you in life anyways, because they're judging you.

  • I used to always cry when my parents would take me to the hairdressers so I would not get my hair cut very often even though long hair bothered me. But then one day they took me to a hairdresser that specialises in cutting kids hair so they are super gentle and they play a tv show so I dont need to small talk. And any time ive gone its been only me and maybe one other person. I still go their today even though im over the age limit, but im short and look younger than I am, so if my mom takes me then I get away with it

  • The last time I went to a hairdressers was around 30 years ago!

I hate everything about them, the forced small talk, the noise, the smells, the mirrors, the hairdryers, etc.

I wear my hair long and just cut off the split ends every once in a while.

  • Well there's definitely better than what you're doing at the moment.

I only get my hair cut about once every 3-4 months and that's because I need to keep it short or it's bad sensorily. My hairdressors is very small, and usually only has one person working in it at a time which means I don't have to deal with the overwhelm of the noise of everyone else in the shop.

While I know changing routine is hard (I didn't get my hair cut for 5 years after my old hairdressers shut until my mum helped me find this one) is it worth looking for smaller barbers in the outskirts of the city?

  • I also hate getting my hair cut. I'm female and my hair is relatively long. The last time a hairdresser touched it was about 2-3 years ago and I remember wanting to grow it, I'd had it shaved short and wanted it long and it has gotten passed the awkward phase and I was pleased! However, the hairdresser told me that I didn't want to grow it and he would keep cutting it at a certain length. My fiance, who's male and has long hair also used the same hairdresser and he gave my fiance this undercut which he hated and never asked for. So we both decided not to go back.

Then lockdown happened and I watched various videos on how to cut my own hair and thought "what could go wrong if I bungle it it will grow back." And I've been cutting my own hair ever since. Yes, at points it's gone wrong but I've been happy with it for the most part. I also trim my fiancé's hair too.

We are getting married next year, so both of us would like our hair cut professionally for the wedding. So I'm not looking forward to that if I'm honest. But my hair cutting abilities have their limits lol.
