They'll be able to give you advice about where you stand legally with sorting this out.

  • No, you're not overreacting. That's terrible. Was it the escort saying things too?

  • My advice:

If you have this on tape then go to a lawyer, see if you can get a no-win, no-fee agreement and go after the transport company. If the lawyer says no you can always go to the press - they love a story like this.

Notify the school when you are doing this so they can stop using the company too and organise an alternative.

The damage they have done to your children is not going to be easy or cheap to deal with but the transport company can be made to pay for this at the very least.

  • Hi, so I’ll be completely honest, we found out by recording one of their journeys and it is an additional needs transport service with an escort on, their were 5 children on the transport and we live in the Uk.

  • Anyway, we eventually found out that these people were making racist remarks, swearing, shouting at our children when they got upset, were joking to other parents about our children, saying horrible things to other children (like “shut up you idiot” under their breath) and lots more, needlessly to say I was horrified but because we had never had a problem with them until the children started “playing up” (their words)

Could you clear up a couple of things, please? How did you find all of this out? And is this public transport or a mini bus only for children going to that school? And is there an escort accompanying your sons? And which country do you live in because the laws are different for different countries in the UK.

How did you find out? If the source is credible then I would raise an official complaint to the school and the company who supply the service as this is both racial abuse and abuse of disabled kids and carries very serious penalties.

I woud ask if CCTV footage with audio can be produced for the events in question (you may need to lawyer up here) as there is a good chance you coud get a settlement from one or both organisations which you may need to use to organise alternative transport and rehabilitation from the abuse.

There should be zero tolerance for this behaviour in my opinion.

  • I’m not necessarily saying that you should do this. But hypothetically if your two children were to wear body cameras on the bus, A it might give you an insight about the kind of things that are setting them off, B if the bus company are doing something wrong or the other passengers are it would give you proof of this.
