I’m not sure that ghosting someone who requested more space not a total cutting off is the best way to handle this. Wouldn’t it be better to build a bridge and find a compromise? Being abruptly cut off from someone we’ve come to care about is one of the most traumatising things we can go through. I’m still grappling with it after two and a half years and it causes me regular distress when I can no longer sustain the energy to distract myself from it. Unless you’re certain that you were treated abusively, not just confusingly, I’d urge you to be less punitive here. But maybe I’m not objective enough. Someone else might think that what you’ve done is healthy.

Yes. It sounds she wanted more space, and was not initially given it. And now the lever’s been thrown in completely the opposite direction, leaving her in a state of confusion and sudden exile from the friendship. The emotional whiplash sounds quite damaging to her. Or am I being unfair? So much we don’t know. 

I really don't think that was ever a friendship to begin with tbh bar an initial on off interest re: a kiss, and both parties are at risk of engaging in an emotionally unhealthy attatchment there, a healthy relationship of any kind shouldn't involve stuff that looks like borderline harassment or mind games. It would be best for both if these two just went their totally separate ways afaic. And if she's doing the same thing to another teen then it's pretty clear to me she's engaging in a pattern of behaviour that may not be unique to the interaction with John but indicative of something else going on in her own life behind the scenes imo.
And judging by what I think I can tell is the age group of the parties involved ("youth club"), I think it's a lot to put on either of their shoulders the burden of "fixing" each others problems, that rarely works even for much older adults I really think they both need to step back and prioritise their own mental health in this situation. :(
