Hi I have been referred for an assessment for ASD (and maybe ADHD as well). When I was referred, a friend told me the wait a couple of years ago was 2 years, but my GP and another friend said it's not that long anymore and should only be about 6 months. I filled in the second round of questionnaires nearly 2 months ago, but I've just seen on the news that the wait in some places for an ADHD diagnosis is 5 years! Does anybody have recent experience and can tell me how long their wait was, please?
Pretty fast for me, was in the region of 6 to 9 months or so, don't remember exactly tho!
He was assessed in Kent, I think he was probably one of the first to be assessed by the new service. Sounds like my husband needs to chase his referral again as we’ve heard nothing and haven’t received any forms. My GP surgery had a complete management change around the time he was seen
Hope you get to see somebody soon x
Phew, that doesn't sound too bad. My wait has been nearly 6 months so far, so maybe not too long now. Thank you
Hi. I also live in Kent. My 29 year old son was assessed early this year. From his doctors appointment to actually being assessed he waited for approximately eight to nine months.
Thanks, I did get confirmation in early October the day my referral and questionnaires were sent off. I then had the big batch of questionnaires sent to me from the assessment place about 2 months ago and have returned those. I guess that's a good sign? Was your colleague assessed in Kent?
One of my colleagues was assessed last summer and only had to wait 6 months. My husband is still waiting to hear something after being supposedly referred again last November as the doctor didn’t actually refer him in November 2021. Did you get any confirmation of your referral from the assessment team? I’m wondering if the GP needs chasing again
My community nurse said i'd be waiting several years for an assessment on the NHS. I decided to look into private assessments and last week a local medical charity said they will cover the majority of the assessment fee (£795) and the psychiatrist i'll be seeing has appointment slots in May this year. So i'll only be waiting a couple of months instead of years. Perhaps there is a local medical charity in your area that will help you out too? Might be worth looking into...
