Autism assessment - emotionally intensive?

I have my first autism assessment appointment next week and it is just before work.

I was just wondering others who have gone through the NHS process, how intense was it? I work with young children so I do not want to turn up to work overwhelmed if it is quite intense.

Sharing any experiences would be really helpful!

  • I think it will very much depend on your life experiences, if these have been difficult to deal with, then be prepared for a revisiting of those, especially if you have never talked about these with any other person.

There is a lot the assessor will be able to learn about your difficulties from these though.

I personally almost withdrew part way through as I found it extremely intense, but this was about my life experience's which I'm sure will be very different from yours.
