Do your friends and loved ones know your identity in this place?

I like to fly under the radar wherever possible - less attention = less stress.

I value anonymity.  I am debating whether to share my identity in this place with my nearest and dearest.

Do the folk from these pages share their identity here with their significant others so they can be "looked up" and their posts read?

A simple Yes or No would be gratefully received, but further reasoning would be especially welcomed.

  • I am very open about my autistic identity, I wear an autistic pride lanyard so everywhere I go, people know that I am autistic! Significant people in my life know I belong to this autistic community but they wouldn’t read the forum pages, unless I happened to talk to them about a discussion I have been involved in on here.

I understand what you mean about less stress and drawing attention to yourself though after all responses to disclosure of autistic identity can be negative, dismissive and very varied due to stigma that is ingrained in our society.

You deserve to be openly autistic, without having to educate others or deal with negative responses/stereotypes. Do whatever is right for you though. you may feel an instinctive need to tell certain people. I know I certainly have with people I feel an instinctive connection with.

I hope this helps. Good luck if you decide to disclose your autistic identity!

  • You misunderstand me Ausome.

That happens when I try to be brief.

I'm not particularly quiet about the reason for my oddness with those around me but nor am I loud and proud.  I'm not talking about whether you present yourself generally as autistic or not..  That's not my thing.  I am Number.

I'm asking primarily about whether your significant other, for instance, knows your handle in this place - because you have told them OR because someone has figured it out - it's probably not that difficult - most people probably don't give a damn anyways etc.

Is that too personal a question ?

  • Theres nothing odd about you Number. Entirely typical in my world
