Seriously though - yes - I think I can perceive things more acutely than most others around me.  It isn't specific to lies, it can relate to all manner of things.  I seem to have a very acute Gaydar (If we are allowed to use that term these days?)  If not, I apologise unreservedly for not knowing and I will not use it again and better educate myself in the future.

I completely agree. My honesty has got me in lots of trouble in the past

Yes, "insincerity," now that you say it I think that's maybe what I pickup on.

I think autistic people are the most honest people on this planet. We communicate in such an honest an straightforward way, but that in itself can cause problems for us.

However this honesty is not always believed by society. Maybe it's the lack of eye contact or the body language. Whatever it is I've lost count of the number of times I've been disbelieved by others when I've been telling the truth.

I do not have a good ability to detect lies unfortunately and have suffered for this many times. It has led me to become very distrustful of others, in particular 'services' such as mental health and social services Pensive

I can't tell usually if someone is lying to me, but I do have a pretty good memory and will fact check previous conversations and spot inconsistencies. Because peoples lies have caught me out so many times, I tend to now believe only what I know is true. Though it doesn't always work.

While sometimes I can be gullible I think I'm quite good at spotting insincerity when I see it

I can tell from body language if someone is lying to me.

I was appalled to discover that Shardovan was not a humanoid inhabitant of a planet in the Andromeda galaxy but, instead, a bloke from Belfast. I won't get fooled again.

    *gets fooled again*

    Damn.

My one of my closest friends plotted to stab me in the back for financial gain and to avoid getting kicked out of uni. Over a period of months; with our mutual friends. I had no idea until it was too late. So yes I’d say I’m pretty bad at detecting deception.
