I got my diagnosis today!!!

It's been a lot to process over Christmas, but it feels like I'm getting there now.  I have both knowledge and experience in this area. 

I get the rebalancing of confidence.  I was back at work this week and it was tough- being honest and "out" about it, and many people responding positively.  But it's left me feelong very tired and exposed. 

I am very happy for you, G, because finally knowing might help you make you happier.

Thank you! Some people at work were asking if congrats was the right response, but I think from other autists it feels right.

I've actually been researching for about a decade, it's been a long journey.  So I've got a good idea what it all means.  But it's nice to have official confirmation and I'm hoping to use it for further support at work.

It just occured to me I've never liked to be congratulated except that one time, and it's funny, because I didn't have to do anything to earn it LOL

Congrats. Be gentle with yourself, it's a usually a long slow transition and lots of slowly born out realisations so, may take some time to find your sense of self again.

It still is for me and I got the nod in June 2022. Still feeling a lot of imposter syndrome and struggling to rebalance my confidence in many situations.

Real pleased for you. I've received my diagnosis over two months ago and am still thrilled about it as it has provided me with many answers as I'm sure it will for you.

I had 3 post diagnosis online meetings with someone who worked for the branch of the NHS who diagnosed me. As well as the wonderful paperwork you mentioned…

The sessions, whilst not enough, were what I used to build my confidence in talking about my experiences. It’s what ultimately gave me the confidence to post on here. I’d observed for a while, but constantly deleted any introductory posts I would write. When these sessions ended, I typed something and hit post.

I know! I was expecting to get like... a leaflet, maybe?

I'll see how it goes.  I'm optimistic but holding onto realism.

I am so pleased for you Glitter. Congratulations! Excellent news that you will be offered post-diagnostic support too. 

I'm just hoping that I meet some people that I can relate to and share some experiences with.

And I have to credit the person below on "ausome" as I stole it from their user name. ;)  I say awesome a lot but now in my head it's going to be spelt like this.

Oh good! I'm so glad things are progressing for you, here's hoping the support group proves to be really helpful and the wait list isn't too long. : )
I think "ausome" is my new fave word now.

I'm happy about getting a diagnosis which gives me a reason for a lot of pain and suffering that I have already been through. I am happy that I can now use that diagnosis to ask for changes that will reduce pain and suffering in the future. And I am happy to have found a connection with other people who have faced the same kind of challenges that I have.

I am happy that I now have an authoritive voice that I can use to guide and support other people, to raise awareness, and to be there as an advocate and role model for the autistic children that I work with, so that their pain and suffering will also be reduced.
