Autistic with autistic kids support

Just wanted to see if there was anyone else on here who is autistic themselves and is also a parent to an autistic child

Would be great if there was as we could support each other

Parents
  • Hello.

I am not a parent, but I do now of a charity called Autistic Parents which might be able to help:

I hope this helps, the charity seems like it is a great support network.

  • We have something similar local to us which we found particularly helpful in the early days when Primary School was a challenge. Being able to communicate directly to others was helpful, if only to know you are not alone. I am not aware though that any of these parents were autistic.

Since getting the diagnosis whilst at Secondary things have changed a bit with different challenges. It was also after this that I realised I am autistic. This can cause challenges, especially with finding times to be able to relax and zone out. From a perspective of an autistic with an autistic child it can be hard and this Forum has helped. Finding times to go for a walk are important as well as days off during school time.

Yes I can imagine, you might both have competing needs at the same, particularly if your child’s sensory profile is the complete opposite of yours.

I am glad, this is what our autistic community is here for.
