Assessment Waiting Times and Experiences (Especially for Psychiatry UK)?

Hi all,

I've recently been referred for adult ASC assessment on the NHS with Psychiatry UK. Their website currently says assessments typically happen up to 12 weeks from referral.

Its something that has been occupying a lot of my thoughts - I struggle with anticipation and waiting for things. I'm itching to be diagnosed (or be told I don't have it, either way)

I was wondering if anyone could share how long they waited for their assessment appointment, especially for Psychiatry UK, and how long after their assessment did they get their diagnosis?

  • I waited 3 weeks for assessment by Psychiatry UK in 2021, but I was paying for it to be done privately. The diagnosis was given to me verbally during the assessment, I received the written version - which I asked to be sent to my GP - about a fortnight later.

    I would add, that I filled out the questionnaire very fully and I suspect that this had convinced the psychiatrist of my autistic status, even before he saw me.
