Assessment Waiting Times and Experiences (Especially for Psychiatry UK)?

Hi all,

I've recently been referred for adult ASC assessment on the NHS with Psychiatry UK. Their website currently says assessments typically happen up to 12 weeks from referral.

Its something that has been occupying a lot of my thoughts - I struggle with anticipation and waiting for things. I'm itching to be diagnosed (or be told I don't have it, either way)

I was wondering if anyone could share how long they waited for their assessment appointment, especially for Psychiatry UK, and how long after their assessment did they get their diagnosis?

I was referred on 3rd Feb - it took a long time for my GP to get around to it. I've been told a phone call within 6 weeks where I will be given an appointment within 12 weeks from that date. Hope that helps.

Hi did you get anywhere with Psychiatry-UK? if so how was your experience. After 3 years on the NHS waiting list, and no appointment in sight I have been annoying my GP and now they are refering me to them. Been told 4-6 months wait time but thats much better then the open ended NHS wait time. So happy just to get getting somewhere!

I waited 3 weeks for assessment by Psychiatry UK in 2021, but I was paying for it to be done privately. The diagnosis was given to me verbally during the assessment, I received the written version - which I asked to be sent to my GP - about a fortnight later.

I would add, that I filled out the questionnaire very fully and I suspect that this had convinced the psychiatrist of my autistic status, even before he saw me.
