Lighting

Am I unusual among autistics for preferring very bright and cool white rather than soft, warm yellow lighting? I love bright sunny days and direct sunlight. I often struggle at events for autistic people because I'm fighting the urge to fall asleep in dimly lit rooms with the curtains drawn, which is also an environment I find very depressing. Is there any product that could help me with this? Like sunglasses but in reverse? Something that can make the environment brighter for me but not for everyone else?

  • No I want the opposite of sunglasses. More light, not less

  • Yes, you can get polarised sunglasses. Originally intended to be worn night time

Myself I get by on sunny days, though I don't like sun reflecting from shiny surfaces. But blinking red lights, like rear bike lights, or emrgency services cars, those make me dizzy, unable to maintain balance. LED lightbulbs producing cold blueish light makes me unable to relax, No way I can go to sleep with them on

  • I like the sun, but I suffer from extreme photophobia, so have to constantly wear sunglasses, indoors & out, wear a cap outside, also. This issue for me is not autism related, another health issue that I've lived with for most of my adult life. I like sunlight, just cant look towards it. I've adapted my life around it now, but not always easy when I'm working within an office environment at times. I also feel self aware of having to wear my glasses indoors, but without doing so it would be impossible for me to live a productive life.

  • Looks like I'm the odd one out.  I'm very sensitive to bright light - hate it.  I wear sunglasses and a long peaked baseball cap whenever I am outdoors - if I can do so without looking like an insufferable kn*b.  Debatable at my age !

I have the most light absorbent surfaces possible on walls, clothes, surfaces etc.  I have multiple directionable lights with very low wattage "yellow" bulbs scattered throughout my workplace.

I like sparse and dim lighting.  Bright sun inhibits my ability to think and physically hurts my facial muscles.  My preference is the dark.

  • Hi, just wanted to say I also prefer bright light when at home. The LED lights are better for me for reading. I also prefer bright sunny days.

I do find it difficult to do a lot of things on dark evenings as my eyesight is worse then. Some evenings the TV screen is less clear. I mentioned this to my optician thinking I needed a new prescription. He said sight does vary at different times. I don't however like florescent lights.

  • Anyone tried something like this? www.pocket-sky.com/en-gb

Would you complain if someone was wearing this next to you at a dimly lit event?
