Waiting for Diagnosis

So having taken the step to start the ball rolling, I approached my GP to get a referral, which they did, I then got the questionnaires that I completed, got my mum to complete the family questionnaire and then sent it all back.

They assessed it and put me on the waiting list, which is 3 years long and I can't leave my area otherwise I will have to do the whole process again

  • The wait is ridiculous, Just passed the 2 year waiting mark myself.

The fact that we can't move out of the area without starting over is even more so. I'm currently in the process of going to uni and part of that has involved telling many health people there that I don't have the option to change my GP. And I think this is an aspect that isn't often talked about. The other side of these long waiting lists is that someone waiting for a diagnosis, mental health treatment or who is actively in mental health treatment is effectively trapped, unable to move on to new job roles, education or just a new area because to do so is to lose access to healthcare in one form or another. It is awful.
