Feeling a bit alone today

Feeling a bit alone today. Need someone to talk to. I am going through a bad burnout since December and just as I thought I was getting better and would be able to return to work I've had a relapse and got worse again. I think I pushed myself before I was ready. Got an appointment at the jobcentre today which Im terrified about, havnt had to go there in years.

Sometimes I just need a few other autistic people to talk to, people that get it

  • Sorry you are  feeling lonely today, we are here for you to chat you.

It must be really difficult if you feel like you are relapsing with autistic burnout. Be kind to yourself. An autistic burnout is your brain’s way of telling you need to stop, slow down and minimise demands in order to recuperate.

I know it might be difficult because you are in burnout, but acknowledge small achievements like getting out of bed.

‘Got an appointment at the jobcentre today which Im terrified about, havnt had to go there in years.’

This is a great step, try and recognise this achievement. It’s some way out of burnout.

All your feelings are valid. Have you heard of energy accounting? It a method that many autistic to help them manage their energy levels and daily tasks.

For example, you plan a certain number of energy depleting tasks in balance with others that are energy deposits in order to avoid overwhelm and therefore hopefully burnout. I know you may not be able to use this method now because you are in the midst of burnout but it may be useful for you to avoid another one in the future.

Below is a video from Purple Ella about energy accounting:

It’s really important to important to talk to other autistic people who just get it, so you don’t have to explain yourself.

I hope this reply makes you feel slightly better and less isolated.  We are your autistic community, you are not alone.
