Just been diagnosed

I've just been diagnosed with autism.  They told me over the phone, but they're sending me reports in a couple of days.  I don't know what to say, I was half hoping they'd say not, but so many mh people have suggested I might be autistic that I had a private assessment (not eligible for NHS one).  How did you adjust to your diagnosis?

  • Congratulations! Welcome to your autistic community. How do you feel about your diagnosis?

Take time to process and understand your autistic identity, as you begin this journey you may go through several different stages of emotions. This is perfectly valid and natural for late discovered autistics as we reflect on our life through a newly discovered autistic lens. Be kind to yourself throughout this process, discovering you are autistic is life changing.

We are here to help you learn more about your own autistic profile or chat to you on your autistic discovery journey.

Below I have posted a video about common reactions to autistic discovery. I hope this is helpful.

  • Thanks!  I'm not sure about the diagnosis, it does fit better than previous diagnoses, but it also shuts some doors as far as therapy goes.  And I'm worried about peoples' assumptions. I will try to be kind to myself.
