Medicine Advice

Hello and good morning everyone!

I have recently been diagnosed with ASD at age 35, my Asd and a couple of big life events have caused me to fall in to a spell of Major Chronic depression and huge anxiety issues and I am looking for some help and advice about the medication I take for these problems.

I currently take 45mg of Mirtazapine for these issues as well as ad hoc Propranolol for when the anxiety hits hard but neither really do all that much to help. I still have situations I have to avoid and have many occasions where I can't function my hands start shaking, heart starts beating super fast, sweat pours and I can barely even speak and it's severely impacting my work and personal life which in turn makes my mood plummet.

Each time I try to speak with my GP about this he suggests I try another SSRI almost throwing pills at me at random until I find one that helps, but having tried escitalopram, sertaline, mirtazapine, propranol and finding little if any improvement, significant side effects, (weight gain, sexual, worsening of depression) I do not want to continue like this.

What medications do you take?

What helps best with mood in your experience?

What helps best with anxiety in your experience?

Is there anywhere, psychological Asd specialists that can help me make a proper medication plan?

  • I refuse point blank to take any. I know some folk say they are helpful and I make no judgement either way. Each must make their own decision.

However, you may want to research meds and autism. There is quite a bit out there to suggest that they may not interact with our neurologies the same way as for other people. We may not benefit. Truth is I don't think anyone truely knows what meds are appropriate in ASD. I think they try what they think is right for neurotypicals and hope for the best.
