Social skills training

I'm looking for social skills training to help my young adult son, but am struggling to find anything suitable. Any suggestions/advice gratefully received!

  • Autistic people are more vulnerable than the rest of the population as they often do not know what other are people are thinking.  They cannot tell if other people are trying to make use of them and might think they are friends when they are not genuine friends.  A woman wanted to stay with me who does not have a place to stay in London but wanted to use my flat as a base to see her friends and was not really interested in me.  I did not agree to that so she left me.  If I did not have Autism I might have told her to get lost before she stayed with me as I would have understood her motives.

  • Even though it's been a year since your post, your dedication to helping your son with social skills training is still admirable. It's heartwarming to see parents taking proactive steps to support their children's growth.

While time has passed, the idea of exploring hrdf training for enhancing social skills remains relevant. They often offer a variety of courses that could potentially align with your son's needs.

No matter how much time has gone by, your commitment to your son's development is something to be celebrated. Keep nurturing his growth and exploring opportunities that can make a positive impact on his journey.

  • Hello. I hope this is helpful. We as autistic people have our own communication style and social skills. Our way of socialising usually involves in depth interest based discussion, we communicate in a literal, direct, honest and specific way. I hope this programme helps your son understand and embrace his own autistic social skills:

Sorry, if this course doesn’t seem age appropriate. On the website, it does say that the course is also suitable for teenagers. If you don’t mind me asking, how old is your son?
