Hi,
My psychiatrist a couple of years ago thought I might have autism. I've been looking at adult assessments local to me, and I've found one who test in your own home, and have spaces in July.
Do I do it? It is expensive.

no one can tell you whether to do it or not. gaining a diagnosis doesn't necessarily mean you will get the support that you need. personally, I have received no support. however, the diagnosis helped me as it explained to me why i do certain things. So, what i am trying to say is that you need to work out why you are considering a diagnosis and what you want out of it

That seems completely unfair - and irrational of them too! Loads of autistic people suffer with mental health issues - so there’s bound to be an overlap. How weird. I’m sorry. Perhaps you could challenge it? It doesn’t seem fair for you to be force to go Privately for a diagnosis.
Unfortunately where I live they wont assess you if you are under the adult mental health team or learning disabilities team. I can't be discharged from the AMHT because of the medication I'm taking, so I have no choice other than private.
Wow - that is a lot of money! If you are not in a hurry you could just approach your GP. I think it can take about 2 years to get an assessment. Whilst this is scandalously long if you are in no rush it might be worth considering. In truth it’s quite easy to find out oneself if your Autistic just by doing research online.
