ADOS 2 Done

Hi all, hope you're all keeping well.

Yesterday I had my ADOS 2 assessment, and it was not what I expected at all.  Personally I thought it was quite childish, exercises included shape sorting to make a pattern, telling a story using a book which featured flying frogs and very precise times.  Oh and telling a story with toys, lol!

The Dr told me I should get a result in about 2 weeks as they have to discuss it with an MDT.

All the best - Dan

  • Hi Dan,

When I was assessed, I also had to read through the flying frogs book (I believe it's called 'Tuesday') as well as telling a story from some images. Many things in these diagnostic questionnaires and tools are just totally inaccurate. On the AQ50, for example, you are seen as 'less autistic' if you enjoy reading fiction. Not sure which genius thought of that but I suppose they haven't heard of things such as... science fiction and fantasy. To some degree I suppose it shows how the tools to clinically diagnose autistic adults aren't optimal and predicated on an incredibly simple understanding of autism.

  • Hi Space Octopus (??!!), It is called Tuesday yes!!  The timings in it are very precise which I mentioned to the doctor but other than that I just said whatever I saw.  She asked me about the expressions on some of the frogs which I'd not noticed, telling me the one there was surprised and the other one there was angry for example.

The only AQ questionnaire I've done was the AQ10 right at the start of the process.  I love reading fiction and, yes, it mostly revolves around sci-fi.
