ADOS 2 Done

Hi all, hope you're all keeping well.

Yesterday I had my ADOS 2 assessment, and it was not what I expected at all.  Personally I thought it was quite childish, exercises included shape sorting to make a pattern, telling a story using a book which featured flying frogs and very precise times.  Oh and telling a story with toys, lol!

The Dr told me I should get a result in about 2 weeks as they have to discuss it with an MDT.

All the best - Dan

  • Hi Dan!

I had my ADOS 2 yesterday also. I found the whole thing mentally draining and today I’m totally on edge, anxious, irritable etc.

i really struggled with the whole thing. The story telling part was a book with no words about a boy, a dragon and a castle. I was absolutely stumped. I ended up quite literally just describing what I could see on the page.

I found the whole thing really uncomfortable and awkward. How did you find it?

  • Hi Bex

I also found it mentally draining and quite childish really, the book and the toy tasks.  I did like you with the book and just described what I saw.

If I think about it, I also felt awkward doing the tasks.  There were only 2 people in there with me, the doctor and someone who was there to observe I think.

The doctor stopped me and put some paper and felt tip pens and other items in front of me and said just occupy yourself with these items while I catch up on some notes.  The room went silent for about 15 minutes or so.  When she was done we just carried on talking again.

It was quite a weird experience but it killed a couple of hours and got me out of the house for a bit.
