AQ-10 form from GP

Hi, I'm 46 and have asked the GP to start the ball rolling on an assessment for me. I have been asked to complete a AQ-10 form but these ten questions don't put me in the referral category - does that mean the doc won't take it further? I have many traits of autism and my father, brother and son also have this. I would really like help on the social side of things and start to make some connections and understanding. It seems a very simplistic set of questions and we all know autism is complex especially when you have learnt to hide lots of it. Is it worth pursuing based on the AQ-10 or will the GP tell me 'no'?

  • When I first went to my GP about getting an assessment, she told me that they'd need the AQ10 form to make a funding decision - I guess the primary care trust needed some cursory evidence before it'd spend the money on an assessment referral.

This being the case, I think it might be out of your GPs hands exactly what kinds of evidence they'd accept or not accept.
