Autism therapy

In South East, you could try Priory in Woking or Southampton? I suppose it's on the cusp of SE/S... They can be a bit hit and miss though, some of their Dr's are a bit med happy, but if it's the therapy services. Although again, those can be hit and miss, and it is a bit pricey as you don't just pay the therapist, your also paying the Priory's cut. I went to them 10 years ago when I was struggling to get anywhere with the NHS. I'm still with them.

I would NOT use betterhelp (an online therapy service you may have heard of) the accreditations of their therapists are a mixed bag from proper accreditation to accredited by "the University of Curacao" (OK that's been made up - I used Curaçao as they issue gambling licenses to offshore casinos...). Also, you have to sign up, before they will even try to match you with a therapist. I.e. £45/week if you are on benefits (I only mention as I am) for a session every couple of weeks. And presumably you are paying for the first appointment to get to know if the counsellor is for you. But you don't get to choose I don't think, I think they literally match you.

(I've just noticed that 'weird' and 'wired' are anagrams of each other :-) 

.. so many times whilst I'm reading it I find myself nodding and gong 'yep, that was me ..'  .. and then smiling a little and letting myself off for being different .. back then I just felt weird and like an alien - now I'm better at just acknowledging that I'm wired differently and some things are easier and some things are harder ..

Hi All, therapy can be in many forms I guess

.. it doesn't have to be face to face work (on Zoom or in person)

.. it can also involve self study and gaining a better insight into the challenges us gifted people have compared to NTs

..  I'm currently reading 'Asperger Syndrome' byt Tony Attwood - not a recent book but brim full of ideas, observations and empathic recommendations

.. I'm gaining a lot by matching my experience with the clinical assessments and suggested interventions. 

I so wish this body of knowledge and professional understanding had been available when I was at school and growing up ..

Chatting with other gifted people can also be therapy I'd say - so a forum like this is a good thing :-)

I have always found Psychotherapy to be the best. The lady I used has knowledge of ASD conditions. I saw her for about 2 years. Based in Berkshire.

Bacp is the web site for accredited therspists. You can search by post code and specialism. Most of them are offering an online service because of the pandemic.
