Passport Photo Advice?

I have to get a passport photo taken tomorrow for the first time and I'm quite nervous about it. As a trans person I'm already uncomfortable with the way I look, but I especially hate photos. I hate looking directly at the lens and for a passport there's no getting around it, plus there's so many rules about what face you have to make etc. Anyone have any tips of how to get through it?

  • I had my passport photo taken in a 'Photo-me' booth.  Where it is fully automated, there was even a menu option for passport photos and the booth computer indicated if the photo was acceptable for passports and gave me a second chance to take the photo.  No people were involved.
