Asperger humour

I have known several people with Aspergers who have made me laugh, more so than 'neurotypical' people have ever done. My dad, who has Asperger traits (but no diagnosis), has a childish and coarse sense of humour, but I always find him funny. What do you think? Are people with Aspergers more likely to find other people with Aspergers funny? Is there an Autistic comedy genre that needs to be researched? Because it is certainly not true that we lack a sense of humour. Maybe we just struggle to understand 'neurotypical' humour - I am trying not to generalise, we are all different!

  • My sense of humour is the thing that gets me through life. I have a sick sense of humour which is always getting me into trouble. Thank God I have it cos frankly I find most people very dull and boring. & when I'm getting narked at by narky people I can just giggle and not give a damn. Smile

  • I don't know if you find this fun, but I do..

I said to my mum, "the only way to get a perfect response from you, is for me to speak to you but for me to also answer for you as well, but if you can just silencely just move your mouth it will help with motion".

I would say to her "I am away home now",,, she replies "okay, drive carefully"..,, so I say " i am away home now".. (I her(me also) replies " it was a good having you here, I will see later on son, night x"

I found that, the perfect conversation is.., me to you me.

I am only kidding here,, but it was funny at the time.

  • You are dead right about humour.  Very little radio comedy amuses me, about the only one I enjoy is "The Now Show".  Anyway there is far too much suspense in most comedy for me to cope with!  Having said that I am always smiling and making people laugh, often at my expense.  I'm in an Activity Club and everyone knows I hate happy bouncy music.  They always laugh when I say miserable music makes me happy.  I'm only happy when I'm melancholy anyway.  Miserable music gets your emotions going so much more.  I agree perhaps I do have a warped sense of humour, so despite Asperger's you can still be very happy, worth thinking about?

  • I think aspergers is genre is..., seriously funny, the life of a wiseman, because with just serious you die of a broke heart, with just funny you are ignorant, but with seriously funny..., you laugh at others and yourself also too, joking can bring a serious message with it, a slap with a smile so to say,, the aspergers way Wink

I know my support worker finds me funny, I ask her why ? she just replies,, it is because you are so honest and straight when you say things. So, I reply, so you suffer from a nervous tick(laughter), watch out, watch out, Winkyou might catch tourettes.

The bottomlineWink is.., mankind has two holes and both talk @&%! and we spend our day regurgitating what is in between both, so nothing changes.
