Meltdowns and changing hormonal levels

I'm supposed to be at work today but I'm not because I'm just coming out of a 'meltdown' which started at the weekend. What I mean by 'meltdown' is I became extremely stressed and anxious, to the point where I can't face life and I need to hide away. I cannot perform everyday tasks due to insurmountable mental obstacles. I feel totally withdrawn and helpless.

For me it tends to coincide with hormone levels changing. It's like PMT +ASD + depression and anxiety all rolled into one 'lethal' cocktail. I think menopause will be a very miserable process.

Does anyone else have time off work due to meltdowns? Do you think your normal monthly changes in hormone levels contribute to a meltdown?

It's some time off I trust but remember when that time comes HRT is an option. Don't be put off it just because people tend to think of it as something only cougars and tacky people do. HRT offers a lot of medical benefits for those who are suitable for it and is often available on the NHS.

  • Thanks for your reply Peter. I wasn't expecting a reply from a man! Not that I've got a problem with it!

I'd honestly never heard of people thinking HRT is something only cougars or tacky people do! My only hesitation would be about the link to *** cancer, but I think that has been disproven? I hope it's an option for me and I hope it works! In the meantime I'm going to try a supplement as JuniperFromGallifrey kindly suggested. Many thanks again.

  • I mean being a woman is a risk factor for *** cancer. Trans women taking oestrogen have a greater risk of *** cancer from HRT. I think its just as you get older your risk for all kinds of cancer goes up and the oestrogen dropping kind helps counteract that a bit. One of the first things they tend to do to men with prostate cancer is put them on hormone blockers to kill their male hormones. Just having hormones of any kind in your body tends to increase your risk of cancer but lack of hormones causes all sorts of issues like bone and muscle loss, and reduced activity of the immune system. As I say talk it through with your GP. when the time comes.

  • *** stands for br345t5 by the way. Yes I'm writing it like that to get round the censorship ... because frankly its just silly at this point.
