Starting hobbies and not finishing

  • Before I start, i think that I may have Hugh functioning autism but have never been diagnosed.

I have some hobbies that I still do or have done for a number of years when I was able to get to a class, but I seem to start some new things, do them for a while and then just cannot seem to put in anymore effort. Like I am interested in Japan and Japanese novels, films and series depending on the genre, so I started learning Japanese and thoroughly learnt most of the katakana symbols (got really into it) but then stopped. I learnt italic calligraphy but really needed to do a lot of work to get better, but I haven't bothered to carry on. I also started learning modern calligraphy, but only learnt a few lower case letters then gave up. I also started (paid for) an online yoga teacher training course and worked through a portion of it before not bothering anymore.

I don't like the fact that I have started these things and not bothered anymore, but I don't have the will power or motivation to pick them up again.

I wonder why this is?

Is anyone else like this?

  • I'm like this, when I was growing up I used to collect top trumps and still have a large collection. I stopped playing when I had no-one else that was interested but made up a way for me to play it by myself, hope to revive this at some point. Last year I got really into playstation platinum trophies, 2019 it was DC comics etc. For the last few years my interests have heavily been focused on Air Crash Investigations, I'm not an aviation expert but I'm just interested in the origins and findings of incidents, particularly MH370 probable causes. Things that I do that help distract me are learning all countries of the world off by heart in their location but also their flags and also doing word searches. This year I also got back into reading DC comics and watching the TV shows. My hobbies would be considered more than a hobby when I'm invested but not so much that it lasts more than a year but there are some which do or come back from previous years, if that makes sense.
