Has the Pandemic Made You Think About Or Change your Job or Lifestyle For The Better ?

Hello,

As we are living through this surreal time in history, I'm curious to know has any of you made any major changes for the better in your lives ?

Has the Pandemic made you re-evaluate things, your lifestyle, work-life-balance, daily routine/rut or career ? Have you eventually switched jobs, location or are currently in-between or have you re-invented yourself in some other way ? Perhaps you have had more time to re-assess what is actually more important in this very short time each of us have on this planet ? I am not expecting Hollywood Movie, happy-ending stories of how one eventually ' fixed ' themselves or the world, I'm just curious to know, has any of this moved you in any way for the better ?

If so, It would be very interesting and hopefully encouraging to hear those stories.

Thanks, T.

  • I'm glad things are more tolerable and accepting for you.

  • Yeah, it seems ' normal ' is the problem and probably how we ended up where we are now. It's great you're managing things better now and things are falling into place for you. That's good to hear.

  • Yes, for some the pressures of society were reduced and welcomed. For others, they increased. It makes you wonder what all the rushing about in modern life actually achieves and I think a lot of people have had time to re-assess things. Being comfortable in your own company is an admirable endeavour and something many of us struggle with but I think it is a sign of real maturity.  Probably a bit jealous though that you've managed to escape the 9-5 rat-race.  Weary.

  • Hope it all works out for you. I've toyed with the idea of going part time to give myself some space in the meantime.

  • Gosh, some of you really are going through some major changes. I'm struggling to let go of my job for not knowing what else to do. I wish you the best of luck in your new journey.

  • I learned who my REAL friends are.

Also, I have paid respects to so many bereaved by posting Mass Cards; or letters of condolence, if they're not Catholic.

I have become more humble, and accepting that I could no longer manage a regular working pattern. There are outside-the-box ways to survive.

    I discovered Bandcamp.

I'm following a Christian Fellowship. Discipleship class tomorrow evening. Cross

  • I got my diagnosis during lockdown. I had CBT during lockdown. The first lockdown showed me how life could be (quiet...less demanding). It has been difficult somewhat adjusting to coming out of it all. Because of all of the above, I'm learning to listen to and follow my needs more. I feel it all has had a positive effect on my mental health and I hope to continue. I'm mindful of social activities more now and how they affect me. I'm more mindful of how work affects me. I've decided to take a lateral step at work and do something new alongside the usual.

Everyone was saying how they wanted things to go back to normal. I really didn't.  I read on the MIND charity website and others about Covid and MH. It was all about actual covid & lockdown causing poor MH . Not once did I read about coming OUT of lockdown and this affecting MH.

  • People like me - quiet, introverted or reclusive for whatever reason - seem to have thrived in the last year. The other replies so far echo that.

But I've become quite fatalistic. I've learnt to be a lot less sentimental about friends and acquaintances; they come and go, no point in getting bogged down with it. I'm trying to become more comfortable with my own company, venturing out every so often to meet my socialising quota before retreating back to safety. Art is very important to me and my reason for being, so that is where the lion's share of my energy and focus goes. I have no interest in jumping back into the 9-to-5 rat race - totally joyless, pointless, energy sapping way to spend an existence if you ask me.

  • yes the pandemic has made me re-evaluate a few things

currently I am working from home (WFH) full time with the odd commute all the way into my office - this is entirely due to COVID.

I want it to stay this way because it so much better for me mentally. There is no office noise chatter and politics to distract me.

I will be applying to WFH once COVID is over, if this is declined then I am considering dropping down to part-time working because I like the way I am now.

I having being studying Zen every day while WFH and it has changed me greatly,,,,, my anxiety has reduced, depression reduced, and i can see through many of my thoughts and I am awakened to the reality of life.

I am thinking of changing my career but I want to wait until COVID is over to see what my options are as it would require a lot of time/studying/money to do.

  • Well, I'm in the middle of a divorce and buying a house and potentially starting a new job so not there yet but on the journey, oh and I met some nice people on here.
