Loneliness

I’ve never done anything like this before and I’m very nervous, but due to the pandemic my diagnostic assessments have all taken a very long time almost 2 years. I’m coming close to the end soon ( I hope,) but I just wanted to talk about loneliness. .

I feel super lonely and there is not a lot of support out there for people that haven’t finished their diagnosis yet, and it feel like no one understands the sensory struggles I face and many counsellors look at me with two heads when I talk about things.

I don’t have any friends as I really struggle to understand socialisation. I just wanted some advice and to see if anyone else feels the same really. :)

  • Before the pandemic my plan for 2020 was to start going to meet ups (e.g. meetup.com) and try various hobbies out in the hope of meeting people and being less lonely.

Unfortunately that all got put on hold because of lockdowns and now it seems everything has moved online. Even now when most people are vaccinated from a disease which is of no risk to them, people are still terrified and I don't think things will ever get back to normal. It's become next to impossible to meet people and make new friends as an adult and it wasn't easy before.

Most people have their established friendship groups from school and university already. I genuinely don't know what to do. The only people I talk to are online. Even though I often don't like human contact, I think I need it. I honestly don't know what to do now. My only hope is the new freedom day on July 2021 is not another lie and that the media scaremongering will stop so that things can go back to normal.
