I don't think that any MH problem is inevitable. But it stands to reason that a lack of proper support and understanding for the experience of being autistic will lead to events and situations which are depressing or traumatic and ultimately cause MH problems.
These then only get worse if the right MH support isn't on offer. Stuffing people full of drugs doesn't help and therapies designed for NTs are ineffective or worse, make matters worse.
Think ur right. And after last assessment(a week ago)when they tried to say i don't have Autism,but probably have ADHD or something like Autism-i sent an email to them and think now that will be used to discharge me. Sent another one explaining diagnoses have alongside,but not sure they give me time of day now. Guarentee will just be the same old Personality Disorder traits fed back to GP again!
I took Amphetamine sulphate once back in the 1980's (Now branded as Adderal I believe) and it was a revelation. I felt completely normal and up to speed for once.
I never explored it again, because of the oft quoted side effects, (Induction of paranoid psychosis) yet if a doctor prescribes it there are apparently no side effects!
Always remember kids a PROFESSIONAL is another way of saying "Does it for the money" and the word is NOT an indication of special competence.
Why do they medicate ADHD, anyway? If it's a neurological difference not a mental illness, shouldn't it be something to learn about and manage. Throwing meds at it sounds like controlling the individual rather than supporting the individual.
