Bosses to avoid if possible

The work situations I have been in where relationships have completely broken down have all had two things in common:  the main one is that the "boss" had to control every aspect of me and work, this seemed to validate their sense of being a "boss"; the second thing which is destructive is they do not listen.

What have you noticed about the impossible boss?

  • Hi - Everyone has their strengths + weaknesses.  A good "boss" can be hard to find.  Basic personality traits will always come to the fore.  He/she has the power.  Those "below" the boss can : a) ingratiate themselves with the boss ("yes people") or: b) will oppose the boss (difficult if there's no backing from anyone else), or: c) shut up + do as they're told.  All this is not healthy for the individual or the organisation.  Much more effort should be put in at the very top of organisations to recruit those in charge with the necessary qualifications + "people skills". By doing this the organisation will be better.  As work can take up so much of your life it's definitely worthwhile looking for another job which suits your personality more.  I know, easier said than done.  There's a lot of disfunctionality out there.
