This whole scenario started about 3 months ago (give or take). I had got to a real low point with my mental health, and both my therapist and new doctor were of the opinion that I might well be autistic and have ADHD. After some preliminary questions, I score high for ADHD and medium to high for autism. So the doctor thought he should refer me to the mental health services.
I was reluctant (as I've had dealings with them before, and they are generally incompetent) but I went along with it anyway. This phone appointment eventually came through for today.
Being on the phone gives me severe anxiety so I was off to a bad start. The lady i spoke to had a strong accent (while that's not her fault it did make it difficult to understand her) and the phone line wasn't great, so I had to keep asking her to repeat what she was asking me.
Being in an anxious state it was difficult to articulate the things I wanted to say and she was completely uninterested in the autism and ADHD as "that's a different department" or the effect it might be having on me. She had no idea what Gaslighting is (my childhood trauma) which left me shocked and she seemed generally unsympathetic and just said I needed to talk to my GP again.
So I feel like I wasted an hour and didn't get anywhere. Welcome to the NHS!
something terrible has happened there must be some sort of mistake, like wrong person was invited to your assessment ---- contact your GP to see what happened.
So sorry u were put through that. Please do not give up. Something odd has happened
