Only just got my referal from GP

Hi everyone, hope you all enjoying the current UK weather !

I need to  find like minded people who have been coping with autism through their working life and, as an adult, need to find the best help between now and getting my first referal for autism/ as.

I have found that my GP couldn't help me apart from getting me a referal that could take 18 months to get...In the meantime, I have had to cope with my being 'overwhelmed' just about everyday. I get panic attacks and get mentally exhausted just goinbg out into town, or performing evryday tasks. I would love to hear what other people have done to help themselves cope. Are there any other organisations out there that could help and advise?

Besty Wishes

  • Hi Nas,

I hope these words come as some support or comfort,  but 2 years ago after 40 years of feeling an "outsider" I requested an autism assessment.

It took a bit if chasing,  which eventually meant my initial request was then sent to a different organisation called "Psicon".

I just returned (about an hour ago) from my "face to face", with a confirmed  diagnosis.

Hang in there and don't be afraid to keep bugging them every six months or so.

It took me 2 years, but the confirmation and acknowledgement now, means that the past 42 years makes more senses now, with a new future ahead.
