Autism & house keeping

Hey im autistic & im struggling to keep my home tidy & I don't understand y i thought autistic peeps were tidy peeps

So im wondering if u can get autistic peeps that r untidy

  • Oh ok fair enough

    Thanks for the advice

    Ill give it ago

So it normal to get autistic peeps that find it hard to keep a house tide

  • I discovered that the best way to wash up, is to group the bits that need to be done and start with the cutlery, which always seems the most numerous. After that, I work through from cleanest to dirtiest. That generally means it's glasses, bowls, plates, and then pots and pans. If the water is too dirty, or I don't have any space on the drainer, I rinse whatever is left and put it aside for the next time I wash up. That way, there is less to do as it's just washing in clean, hot water.

As for tidying your room, The easiest way is to aim for ten minutes, or choose one area. Setting a time frame or a location breaks the task down. If you choose to carry on afterwards? Great. But 10 minutes is easy to fit in and you can achieve a lot.

There are lots of little ways but I find that little and often builds in the habit and makes it easier in the long run.

  • Ive never really had much of a routine as a child coz no1 knew i was autistic till inwas 10yr old

So i tend to struggle to stick 2 1

  • Welcome to my world, bex.

I am up to my armpits with the dishes, and my room is a mess.

  • I have Autism & ADHD and i constantly spend more time trying to figure out a starting place and how i am going to the tackle the house work. by the time i start it too late and an unaccepted time to use a hoover. i will often try to tackle a task but start another one half way through and make more mess in the process which becomes upsetting. the only way i have managed to keep the house clean is by keeping to the same routine and frequent reminders however if someone disrupts the routine my autism side comes out and i start malfunctioning and meltdowning. my routine issues are double edge sword i need them, i like them but if i deviate from them or can't complete a tasks in the right order because someone is in the way or something happens it become issue. where it may take a couple of days to get back on trac or a week.

  • I like order with certain things like how clothes should be in draws

But wen it comes to house work i struggle with it especially the washing up & keeping my room tidy

  • I'm a bit of both. I like order but when I'm overwhelmed, it takes a lot of effort to get things done. I also struggle to work around the people I live with. For example, I struggle to hoover unless they are out of the house.
