Medication?

Both myself and my husband were diagnosed fairly recently. For years he’s had what ?I now think are autistic meltdowns which are very scary for me. I’ve been researching and Abilify seems to sometimes be used to help. I’m not sure though whether a GP can prescribe this or whether it has to be a psychiatrist? The mental health team have refused to let him see a phyciatrist

  • Hey NA, yeah you'll need to go through a psychiatrist. Make an appointment with your GP and ask for a referral up to your local psych, I can't for the life of me seeing them refusing to do so. Apologies for prying, but are the meltdowns manic in nature, or depressive? If either, then by no means can or should the health team be trying to block the help you are entitled towards.

On prozac myself, more on the depressive side myself and god bless satan for it, it just calms me to the point of being me without the worry of being pushed towards ye auld breakdown that follows every so often. Hope this helps and you pair get the help you deserve.
