Accepting ASD

Hi, I haven't been formally diagnosed as having ASD. But as being a teacher, I can see that I 100% have it. Most of the people I grew up with knew I had something but didn't want to accept it. I just feel because of this, I have quite a bad relationship with it. Is there anything any of you can recommend to help me? As I do really need to improve my relationship with ASD and the social problems I face with it.

Thanks :)

  • I went to my GP and asked about getting diagnosed. In my area the Local Primary Mental Health Support Service triages all such requests and then arranges the formal diagnosis with a Psychiatrist. Process took me about 7 months.

As for whether it's worth it, only you can answer that as self-diagnosis is perfectly acceptable. However, in my case, I decided I needed a formal diagnosis for my own peace of mind and to have tangible evidence to take to my family and employer ( when requesting reasonable adjustments). So for me it was worth it Slight smile
