Favourite Productivity Tips?

Hello, friends of the forum.

Anyone care to share their favourite tips for overcoming :

  • procrastination
  • inertia
  • obsessive thought loops

And generally all the things that prevent "executive function" and getting important and necessary things done?

How have you coped with this at home or work? how do you get yourself to break those cycles of unproductivity and knuckle down?

  • thanks for your reply! I wanted to post something focused on helping the issue rather than describing what a problem it is, because I just knew i would start wallowing in self pity and listing my 1000 problems in my life if i did.

Love your positivity !     lots to try..

lets share more tips if we come across them

  • Oh wow! Plectrum! This absolutely rules my life. I can’t believe how perfectly you’ve described it. I’m going to use what you put to describe my experience at work to my manager. Thank you for posting.

Autistic Entrepreneur the reference to Gary Vaynerchuck is so helpful. Thank you for posting too! Especially the advice about social media. The times I’ve been sucked down a rabbit hole because of something which pops up on Twitter/FB/WhatsApp/email/etc, etc. I know it’s happening but am compelled to follow even though I know I’m being taken over.

At work I hate starting off with a blank sheet so will often commence a piece of work last thing knowing that because I’ve made a start I have a higher chance of diving in the next day carrying on where I left off and becoming absorbed before I get distracted.

I also try to write a pathway to completion that I can follow by writing a list of the task components so I can cross them off one by one and feel a sense on achievement at the same time as having the next step ready for me to take straight afterwards.

I also try to listen to meditation music to get me in the zone (binaural beats - a couple of my favourites below). They can help me get in the zone. Trouble is the effect tends to wear off and I end up desperately searching for another one (yes, like an addict). When it works it’s amazing and I am so productive.

You have no idea how comforting it is to hear that it’s not just me. It’s so hard to describe the impact that ASD has on your life or to believe you are not just going crazy and that these brain behaviours really are part of a recognised condition.

Thanks both of you. You’ve made me feel ‘normal’ Heart eyes

    Have a great day x

  • I find having a short but productive task ready planned for the first ten minutes as I wake up is a big help. What I do in this window has a massive impact on rest of my day. I also avoid any random influences from social media and email in this time.

Also don't aim for perfect action, often we want to know how to do everything before we start. The best way to learn this however is to start with imperfect action. Aiming for getting everything right is a quick way to depression and anxiety, adding to inertia and obsessive loops.

Though he isn't targeting neuro-divergent people specifically, Gary Vaynerchuck has been a big help to me. I followed many of his feeds for business insights but he focuses heavily on mindset and thought patterns, my best lessons here came from him. I can't link but he's easy to find.
