On Tuesday 14th January I was diagnosed with ASD after nearly 2 year wait. I don't know what do next. I have a 13 year old son who also has ASD. He was diagnosed at 10. Where do I go from here?

Hi, I think you’re doing well! I’m nearly 45, I was referred last November and still awaiting an appointment for the official diagnosis.
From what I understand from my GP there is not a lot of support once diagnosed. I have been on this forum for since December and found it a wealth of information. From what I glean the support is very regionalised and also the requirements of support are very individual.
My suggestion would be ask a lot of questions on this forum and look for local support groups if needed.
I have been told there is support out there. They are going to do another assessment but to break down my Asd to see where I need help, etc. It's just I'm looking for help in the meanwhile. I was told there is now a 2 and a half year waiting list in my area so I am lucky to have been seen as quick as I was.

I understand that thought process. I guess for me, I’ve made it through 40 odd years of my life without a formal diagnosis and apparently have instinctively put support measures in place for However, some of those have held me back more than anything, so its trying to refocus some of them. I had to give up corporate life a few years ago and I’m in the process of becoming self-employed doing painting a decorating etc. It just means I can control when and where I work and it’s generally on my own, which is better.
Hope you get a few more responses. Good luck
Well I have never had a job and I know I wouldn't cope with one. I do get support with my son who has ASD, I just need abit more of me time with ppl who understand.
What do you feel you specially need help with?
