Struggling at work

Hello fellow autistics,

I work in a museum full time (9:40am - 17:45pm) and the hours are getting too much for me.

It is affecting my general health, I am feeling tired a lot, I am struggling to function and some nights I have meltdowns because the days are too long.

That is not the only struggle, I also travel to work on public transport and my sensory issues really don't help.

I am very nervous about telling my boss that I want to go part time which would meet my needs better. I'm worried they will say I'm making up 'excuses'.

I really don't know how I will get the message across and how to put it more positively.

  • Hello asdballerina26,

I have to say I was very impressed when I read your profile!

If you explain to your boss that the hours are wearing you down (Or words to that effect), I am certain that they will understand and they will accommodate your needs. After all, the last thing that they want is for you to come into work absolutely dreading it.

If you are looking for a change of position, have you looked at the BBC Writersroom? I have sent a few scripts in, but I have been unsuccessful. Or have a look at the jobs with the BBC or ITV. They are always on the lookout for new personnel and talent.
