After being wound up by my very loud and rebellious 5 year old daughter 3 hours ago, I'm struggling to calm down. I'd therefore be grateful for any tips to help lower the stress and anger levels. I thought locking myself away quietly for some internet browsing would help, but sadly it didn't.
Thanks, Steve
My personal ones are gardening, listening to old radio stories, biting/sucking the end of a towel or playing with a crystal I carry x
Maybe try going for a walk? I find that physical exercise helps to dispel energy when I’m wound up.
Great suggestion and again something I should have thought of as I often play simple games on my phone, but without any intention for calming, but I guess I was using it for that without realising. I'll make a list of strategies now for next time. Many thanks.
I do fidget generally, so perhaps a proper fidget gadget would be helpful. My partner just reminded me that I have some Buddhist prayer beads I could use to fidget with, which I bought ages ago to help with mindfulness. She also suggested I make a playlist of calm down music, which is a good idea.
Candy Crush Saga. Or Tetris. Some kind of mindless game that requires just enough thought to keep you occupied without being any actual effort. Empathy on the small child situation. Parenting can be stressful.
Yeah I can get like that. Where you just cannot regulate how you’re feeling and everything feels like too much effort. I also use a fidget cube in unknown situations if that helps x
Thanks Jack. I'll have a look.
I've used music before to help me calm down. I should have thought of it, but can't think straight when I'm wound up. Thanks for reminding me. I think I'll write down a few strategies to remind me next time.
Have you tried fidgets? I make them and sell them in a little shop on Facebook and am offering discounts for people on this site. They are just items with aromatherapy and/or sensory stimulation that can help with these kinds of situations. Check them out if you want and let me know if you are interested https://www.facebook.com/fidgetsbyjack/ or Instagram @fidgetsbyjack
I use music or the sound of water, ie rain, rivers etc and depending on how I’m feeling depends on what sounds I need. I also use familiar audio books to distract myself. Then I have time to calm down properly. It can take a while though :)
Good idea. I'll give it a try next time. Thanks.
I binge watch familiar tv shows
