Got my report (a surprise as I'm still waiting for ADOS)

The report says pretty much what I was expecting:

  • Evidence of qualitative impairments in social and emotional reciprocity, non verbal communication deficits and difficulties maintaining relationships
  • Insufficient evidence in stereotyped and/or repetitive behaviours or highly restricted and fixated interests

So - on the face of it at this stage - not autistic.

Still will take a while to process but I was already a little ahead of the game I think - i.e. I just need to love myself as I am and not worry about what everyone else thinks.

I'm not sure how the ADOS might or might not change this conclusion. Particularly as I think ADOS is about social imagination ant interaction, so even a "positive" on the ADOS would add to the already ticked box whilst doing nothing to address the un-ticked box?

Still leaves me wondering "what am I?"

To be continued :-)

  • Thanks - yes the conclusions of the report were pretty much as I typed above. I met the criteria for part A of the DSM-V (which is what the report states they use) but only one of the two criteria needed for part B (I meet the sensory criteria but none of the others i.e. Stereotyped or repetitive motor movements....... Insistence on sameness....., Highly restricted, fixated interests).

Exactly as you say - it's a matter of interpretation on what repetitive, fixated or restricted. I certainly identify with it but that could be confirmation bias speaking.
