Received my diagnosis

Hello,

I received my official diagnosis letter in the post today and stating that I have been diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome (F84.5, ICD-10).

I’m a bit confused because I was expecting it to be ASD according to DSM-5. I didn’t think aspergers was diagnosed anymore, although that is how I identify.  This was an nhs assessment.

Anyone else?!

  • The ICD10 does have Aspergers -  often stated on the diagnosis as 'Autism with an Aspergers profile' or something similar.

Your psychologist/psychiatrist may choose to use Aspergers.  ICD 10 is usually used in the UK rather than the DSM.

Don't worry about it, it doesn't change what you are diagnosed with and you can choose to say you are Autistic, or you are on the Autism Spectrum, or you have Aspergers Syndrome or you are an 'aspie'.  Your preference although many choose not to say they 'have' autism but are 'autistic'  since autism is not something you 'have' like a disease,  but being autistic is something you 'are'.

And welcome to the officially diagnosed!
