Facebook - good or bad ?

What is your experience of social media with respect to autism, have you found it useful in making you feel part of society or have you had poor experiences to have decided to ditch it?

  • The only way that is safe for me to use facebook is to not really use it. The timeline updates happen too fast to process. Its filled with users who want you to award their stupidity. Communication tends to be very superficial in the way of likes and replies but oddly polarizing when it comes to political and cultural issues. Using it regularly makes me increasingly stressed as I attempt to mine it for validation and attention which, lets face it, is not going to end well.

Absolutely spot on & describes my experience perfectly. I'm better off (and much less stressed and focused on it) now that I've finally broken away from it and deleted my account.

  • Me too - full of self promoting/upmanning narcissistic posting of "look at me/my life".

it is like any addiction, once hooked then you have to keep feeding it, there is a need to detox/remove yourself from those that affect your mental wellbeing.
