Facebook - good or bad ?

What is your experience of social media with respect to autism, have you found it useful in making you feel part of society or have you had poor experiences to have decided to ditch it?

  • I think that Facebook as a social tool doesn’t really work unless you are only using it to link up with your actual friends and family. Otherwise it’s far too easy to get drawn into the dramas of people that you don’t really know. If you use Facebook for a specific purpose then it can work. For example, I only have a Facebook account now so that I can have a group page for a local group that I’ve set up for Autistic women and for that purpose, Facebook is useful for me to share information with group members and also to gain new group members. High privacy settings are essential though otherwise pretty much anyone can see all your information.
