Sleep and relaxing

I find it really difficult to sleep unless i’m really tired and I can only sleep if the air around me is cold with a cold pillow, I think I might have insomnia.

I also can’t sit on a chair without clapping my knees together constantly, it happens without me even thinking about it.

How do you relax?

Because the most relaxed I feel is when I’m playing sport where everyone else says relaxing is lying down doing nothing. I don’t understand why anyone would do that because it’s not fun or productive and just a waste of time.

Is it just me or is this relatable?

This lullaby doesn't help me sleep but it's a very charming alternative to sleep (it's 3.30am). Been listening to Dezurik Sisters on youtube for about an hour now. Might need to buy the cd.  Slight smile

  • If someone could provide a link to an online shop selling "discreet chewable necklaces" I would be very grateful.    Slight smile

  • Perhaps you just have a lot of energy! Do you sleep better if you had a really full day (e.g., early morning, lots of work, lots of exercise)?

  • I think it seems this topic has been exhausted of conversation so I think we should talk about something like social interactions and situations.

I find it difficult to talk in groups and often find I’m near silent in those situations but when talking to just 1 person I’m much more social. Is this common and what are your experiences.

  • Happens the same and thinking about the stuff that is not really going to happen.

  • For me it’s the hour after the TV has been turned off or the music has stopped because it isn’t working so I’m just lying alone drowning in my thoughts.

  • I jnowvehat you mean if evervtheres a time of day or night we can become haunted by our past its slways night and with me usually 3 am.

  • 8 hours, I can’t do that.

6 will be a good night for me. I can’t get tired enough without staying up late unless I’ve had serious social interaction which is distressing enough.

I’m also kept awake by reflections on my past and to times at school when I had been treated differently when I didn’t know why as although I was diagnosed early it was kept a secret from me for many years. I get angry with myself sometimes for no reasons thinking I’m not good enough and without physical action to counter those thoughts nights can be odd times.

  • A necklace is still quite clear. I’m not willing to sacrifice my appearance for nothing.

  • Funny you should ask this. I have just found listening to Pink Floyd, comfortably numb really relaxing but it has to be listened to through head phones

  • I can relate to this strongly, not sleeping almost got me to breaking point as I am a strict 8 hrs person and if I don't get it im all over the place.

My Gp prescribed quitiepine 25 mg (off licence) one at night I've found this has made a massive improvement, unless Im really stressed then nothing works,

Quitiepine is usually prescribed at 300mg or above for schizophrenia but is brill for sleep at 25mg.

Or If Im woken in the middle of the night by anything or anyone eg snoring........

I also use a fan even when its freezing I like the breeze on my face and the white noise

  • They do make smaller discreet chewable necklaces that are designed not to look infantile. I have seen several autistic adults using them

  • When ever I had or have a meltdown the neighbours always call the phone.

  • I Just listen to music I like, so just like therapy session by NF, it’s an acquired taste.

  • I have a humpback whale song cd which is allegedly relaxing but I think that would give me insomnia and possibly antagonise the neighbours!  Smiley

  • What's the best music to sleep to?

  • I was thinking the same thing to tell you the truth.   Disappointed

  • I couldn’t listen too anything other than music while trying to get to sleep. Any sound whether it’s a ticking clock or snoring will keep me awake.

  • If I were to ever have one of those chewy gem things nobody would ever find it or see me with it. There too childish, big and impractical.

  • Biting is a recognised autistic trait I think. I bite my right arm dozens of times a day. There are biting "toys" I've seen online which are meant to distract you from biting yourself. I don't know if they are any good or if they're just another way to make money out of autistic people.
