Job applications, what to disclose

I'm still applying for various jobs.  And keeping an open mind about the type of work I'm looking for.   Actually, I just need the money! !!!!!

Now here's an interesting question ?  What do I disclose on my latest application ?  Which is for a support worker at a nearby privately run mental health unit.

Advantages of this job are;

  1. I live ten min walk away.  So no travel costs.
  2. I get along with people with challenging and unusual behaviour .
  3. I have a very good understanding of autism.  And mental health issues in general.

  • It's quite hard to say what the best approach is. With hearing loss I apply and do the interview without disclosing, then disclose if offered the job. I think I will carry on doing that if I get an autism diagnosis as well.

    On the other hand you may be able to get a guaranteed interview if you do disclose, and you can also ask for adjustments to be made at interview. It really depends on what works best from your perspective.

    You would have many strengths in the support worker role as you are so encouraging and supportive to other people in this online community.
