Marmite - Love it or hate it?

Morning all...

Did someone mention Marmite on the "Breakfast" thread yesterday? ;-)

My favourite Marmite combos are...
Marmite and peanut butter on toasted wholegrain.
Marmite and cucumber on crusty white farmhouse.
Cheese and Marmite, any sliced bread, made in the Breville sandwich toaster....
I'm drooling already ;-)    How do you eat yours?

  • I love marmite, for years as a kid my mum used to buy me a little jar to go in my stocking at Christmas and I just used to dip breadsticks in it. I largely like it unadulterated with just butter (I can't imagine trying it with peanut butter...)-marmite on toast is just the moorish thing ever-but cheese and marmite is a classic. A cheese and marmite toastie for lunch is part of my weekend routine.

  • Hi BT,

What a wonderful story! I feel all Christmassy already... despite the current temperature in Portugal and view of palm trees and swimming pool from my balcony ;-)

Doh, I've made it all about me again...

Hope you are enjoying your day.

I'm missing Marmite out here... they dunno what they're missing!

  • Those were the days, eh? Your reminiscing takes me back to the hot Bovril drinks vending machine which my sister and I used to reward ourselves with after our weekend swimming.... mmmm-mmmmmm!

  • Marmite and dripping in white uncut bread, for the younger of you dripping is the thick lard type fat you got after cooking meat on a Sunday. You don’t get it much now as most meat is injected to bulk it out and preserve it.

So take the dripping out of the fridge and spread thickly on bread which has marmite already spread onto it, no butter..

Times were hard so improvisation was key. Never complained once, food was food.

As a kid with not much food available marmite and oxo in a cup of hot water was great especially if stale bread was dunked into it to soak, lashings of proper salty butter of coarse,

These days marmite and cheese on toast.

    nothing else mixed with marmite.
