Clothes shopping?

I struggle to find clothes I like for work (senior, professional, female)

Of course, I hate shopping in a shopping centre. Online shopping is much better but it's still difficult. The filters are about colours and patterns - where I'll have at least some preferences, nothing too bright...  What I'm really looking for is something comfortable - so would love to be able to filter by material as well. Suits just don't work for me and as a woman the dress code is more flexible than suit and tie thankfully)

I've researched personal shoppers online. I don't want to go round the shops with one. And online services tend to be limited to a small number of couture brands. Or are very focused on personal style and image. Rather than something that looks fine while being comfortable and practical.

At the moment I cope by spending time looking through online shops and infrequently finding something I like. But I'm time poor.

That leads to three questions:

- Does any else struggle with this?

- Does anyone know of a good online personal shopping service that might work?

- Would anyone be interested in doing the research for me for a modest fee?!

  • I remember seeing an advert for a US clothes store for men that has sizes going up to 15XL!

  • It's worse for women, a size 12 top can differ quite a bit between stores!

It's bad for men as well.  I've bought medium shirt in one store and had to exchange for large, in another store a small fitted me fine.

In the old days we had S, M, L.

Now we have S, M, L, XL, XXL, XXXL.

  • Personally I don't mind clothes shopping, however there really should be a more universal sizing system - for example, I'm usually a medium when it comes to T-shirts, however in some stores I'm a large and in some I'm an XL.

It's worse for women, a size 12 top can differ quite a bit between stores!

  • That's why I love shopping for basic cotton t-shirts, you can pretty much guarantee a good fit. When it comes to more professional attire, it's even more important to get the fit just right. Have you tried checking out 3 piece suits for men? They can be a great option for a polished, put-together look. I recently came across a website called that offers a wide range of suits in different styles and sizes, you might want to give it a look - https://happygentleman.com/. They even have a helpful sizing guide to assist you in finding the right fit.

  • I can only wear cotton so that limits things a bit for me. What tends to happen is that find a brand I like and then end up being quite loyal to that brand once I know it suits me. Right now it’s a company called ‘Naked Generation’. Comfort is my absolute priority when it comes to clothing. In the last 2 or 3 years I’ve also made a conscious effort to go for quality over quantity. I don’t by clothing very often and therefore even if the few items I do buy are quite expensive it’s cheaper overall.

  • If you struggle with going to the shopping centre alone, you could try going there with a friend. I understand, and I wouldn't say I also like the idea of drawing people's attention. However, I've noticed that people barely ever look at me when I go out somewhere with a friend. that's comfortable for me. I can't suggest a stylist. However, I've got a site where I always get high-quality material clothes. It is a Harry Styles Merch shop. They do marches and different pictures on the clothes as well, and I like it too

  • It's hard to find good clothes online. If it's about color selection and clothing selection, yes, but there are great stores that offer convenient size ranges right away to make it easier to find what you need. I don't like shopping, but I like analyzing the market. I can try on things in the mall and order a similar model online, knowing how it looks on me in advance. And as for accessories to outfits, I order many things from AAAPurse. I have found some great replica handbags there and want to buy some more. It is just like clothes. I have tried on bags in boutiques and looked at them to find a similar one and order from the site.

  • And for me, the problem is what to wear to the wedding? I love breezy dresses because they emphasize the figure and look stylish, but such outfits are not suitable for a wedding. Many people tell me that if you are invited to a wedding, you should not wear too low-cut and short or revealing dresses. And I agree with people who think so. After all, a wedding is always a family holiday. Even if you go there to make new romantic acquaintances, you need to observe a certain restraint and elegance. But an ordinary outfit is costly, but tips to save on a wedding thebudgetsavvybride.com won't help. What should I do, go in the wrong outfit or spend a lot of money?

  • Oh man, I understand you so damn much! Finding clothes that I like is probably one of the most challenging things for me. Besides all that, I also hate going to a shopping center or a mall. I prefer online shopping. I just hate contacting all those people, and sometimes, all of a sudden, I start panicking. I don't even understand why. Because of all these issues, I prefer shopping at https://atlas1.co/. This is the only website where I can find clothes and shoes that I like. And, they also have some great prices.

Being that as you stated that you are time-poor but cash-rich, might a personal dress-suit-clothes-maker be consideration? If so you can get measured up, be given a fabric-swatch for texture and colours, get measured up, and have a bit of information exchange about the sort of clothes you want or like, and let the dress-suit-clothes-maker do the rest ~ perhaps?

  • Thanks - I’ve considered and done that before. I’m time poor but cash rich - I want someone else to search out clothes for me. I don’t have time to do the rounds of the shops - whether it’s at midnight or during the day.

Im not looking for trousers or suits which limits the need to check in store a lot. It’s floaty tops, dresses and skirts, especially with summer coming up.

ebay is a great suggestion for looking for what I’ve already got and like but is getting worn :)

  • Thought the Debenhams idea was great.

Not sure this will be acceptable? Supermarkets have really upped their game as far as clothing ranges are concerned - Tesco superstores (F&F), Sainsbury's (Tu), Asda (George) and some bigger supermarkets have excellent ranges of clothes.  Lots open till late/24 hours or go very early, so you can go when it's not busy. Fabric technology has moved on and I've found that they have surprisingly decent feel to what looks like work wear or smart casual items.  Some flexibility on sizing too, eg: trouser length.  You could look online first and then go in store to check quality?

Next Directory catalogue is quite good for quality and price.

I find ebay too random...unless I have something in my wardrobe that I love that has completely worn out, then I look for exactly the same brand, size style, to replace it Relaxed

    Good luck.

  • Thank you for the advice so far. I'm aware of the services provided in shops - that's not what I'm looking for. I'm happy buying clothes online - I know the broad style, and I'm not looking for perfect form-fitting. And most will provide free returns after trying on for fit. Form-hugging and comfortable don't go together for me. Multiplying one shopping by half a dozen to find something that suits isn't something I have the time for.

I am very specifically looking for an online service. That could cover multiple online clothes sites (not just a single clothing brand or retailer).

  • I would find it very difficult to find comfy clothes online, even if the material is listed, because you can't really tell how something will fit until you try it on. If it's a cotton t-shirt. you pretty much know it's going to fit and be comfy, but professional clothes are more form-fitting and therefore more likely not to fit as you expect. What I used to do when I was employed was buy a whole lot of clothes in one go and that would keep me for over a year. I really think that would take less time than trying to find stuff online.
