2.5 year old boy

Hi everyone

Just registered to this site and thought would pop a post up for someone who is in the same boat. We've been under the care of a paediatric consultant since Aug 2016. We've seen portage, speech and language, nursery specialists.  Occupational  therapy.  Hearing test and continued support of the Health visitor.

He's been discharged from portage and speech and language. Also occupational therapy ( peadiatrician is asking for a second opinion on that). We had another assessment today with the peadiatrician and we haven't been discharged! She's now referring us to opthalmology, physio ( hyper mobile joints she thinks) dietician, blood test and wants speech and language to see him again. We have done research over the past year and spoken to others and feel strongly he is on the spectrum ( looking like PDD-NOS) The peadiatrician hasn't given us any clue at all and that's frustrating!

A little bit about our little boy.

He is extremely funny and as hard as it is, he does make you smile. He's 2 years 9 months. First started thinking something was different when he was a baby. 2 people from the outside mentioned something and my husband then said he felt something was there. He has epic meltdowns,we know at this age he can have tantrums and we can distinguish the two!

We feel that he does find certain aspects of the world around him very challenging. From very early on, we discovered that he understood a lot more than he could communicate and that caused him immense frustration and subsequent 'epic meltdowns!

He's now talking, a lot but this is only adding to the difficult task of distinguishing between his personality, typical toddler and autistic traits. Then trying to communicate those to family and professionals often leaves us feeling like were making it up, but surely parents know their child best, right?

He hates to be cuddled unless on his terms, hates to be touched on the face and any arms round him.  Makes no attempt to wrap his legs round when having a carry. Suncream/babywipes  'hurt' as he has hypersentive skin.

Does anyone else have/had a similar experience and could offer some insight?
