I have always felt like I am from a separate jigsaw puzzle cut from different pattern to the others, so I find it hard to fit.
Do you have any analogies?
These are great.
A cat in a dogs world is very apt.
A cat in a dog's world is the one I always use, too. We try to emulate the dogs in order to 'fit in'. We chase a stick occasionally - even though we see it as a pointless exercise. We make a fuss - even though we don't want much, and would sooner be alone somewhere comfortable. We're friendly on our own terms.
Meanwhile, the dogs can't see us as cats putting on an act. They see us mainly as poor excuses for dogs!
A friend of mine says her head operates with an Apple OS and everyone else is on Windows!
And here's another...
More of an adage really, since I think that others are more likely to think I've ended up on the wrong galactic object:
Right planet! Wrong education, occupation and city!
A cat in a dog’s world
I often use the left over puzzle piece...
the broken biscuit in the jar
the spare wheel
The elephant in the room
