New diagnosis

Hi all,

I have recently been diagnosed as autistic and also having OCD at 30 years old.

I feel very emotional about it at the moment (can't stop crying) and would be very grateful for any advice on how to come to terms with my diagnosis please.

I also work full time and was wondering what other people find helpful in terms of work adjustments?

Many thanks,

Martina

  • Hi Martina,

Receiving an autism diagnosis can bring up a whole range of emotions. Please be kind to yourself and allow yourself time to process everything.

I wanted to share some resources with you that you might find useful.

Our website has a diagnosis hub, this includes information, practical and multimedia resources to support autistic people and their families before during and after diagnosis. You may want to visit the other resources on our website, we have advice and guidance on a wide range of information about autism, socialising and relationships, communication and education: www.autism.org.uk/advice-and-guidance

You can try searching on our Autism Services Directory for diagnostic services in your local area. The Directory also includes listings for support and social groups for autistic people, their families and friends.

If you have recently been diagnosed, you may like to view our podcast ‘What's next?’ www.youtube.com/watch

You mentioned that you work full-time and would like to find out about the reasonable adjustments you may be able torequest in your workplace. We have a page explaining the different types of support available and examples of adjustments that could make working life easier: www.autism.org.uk/.../what-support-can-i-get-at-work

I hope you find this helpful.

    Take care.
